ABOUT THE POLICE OFFICERS ASSOCIATION

The Police Officers Association is a professional employee organization that represents professional Police Officers and Public Safety Dispatchers in labor negotiations, wages and benfits, working conditions, legal issues and other matters.

Our Police Officers have the same authority given by the California State Constitution and Penal Code as the Sacramento Police Department, Sacramento County Sheriffs Department and California Highway Patrol.

We encourage activities to improve the morale and welfare of our members, promote professionalism and advancement within the law enforcement profession and promote charitable and benevolent purposes.

All of our activities are authorized under our Articles of Incorporation or By Laws and under the California Corporations Code and Non Profit Mutual Benefit Law, the California Government Code, IRS Code § 501(c)(5) and in the near future, IRS Code § 501(c)(3).

The Police Department is a professional law enforcement agency that proudly serves the schools and northern communities of the City and County of Sacramento.

Our agency operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week and 365 days a year.  Jurisdiction is shared with the Sacramento Police Department, Sacramento County Sheriffs Department and California Highway Patrol.  We patrol over 120 square miles and approximately 100 sites within the City and County of Sacramento.  Contract and general law enforcement services are also provided for 3 park districts and the community.

Our professional law enforcement agency is fully certified by the State of California POST Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission.  Our Police Officers are sworn peace officers under the Constitution of the State of California and Penal Code § 830.32 that grants authority to enforce laws within the state.

The police vehicle fleet was recently upgraded with Dodge Chargers and the remaining Fords were painted an impressive black and white.  Each Police Officer receives advanced professional training and is issued a Sig Sauer semi automatic pistol, an LER or long rifle, tactical shotgun, less lethal shotgun, TASER, digital cameras and an MDC or Mobile Data Computer with mobile access to various criminal justice databases and resources that provide officers with critical information to keep them and the community safe.

As a principal member of the SRRCS Sacramento Regional Radio Communications System, our Communications Center is linked with regional allied law enforcement agencies through the CommLINK and HOTLINE.  The Communications Center also utilizes state of the art CAD and RMS.  It also monitors over 350 video surveillance cameras and ultimately 700 cameras with the future capability to downlink video feeds to patrol vehicles.

We are proud to be one of the best trained and equipped agencies within the county, region and Northern California.  We have the resources and equipment available to be a valuable resource to our allied law enforcement agencies and the communities that we serve.  All of this only serves to assist our Police Officers to better serve our community and accomplish our mission.
